about

Having previously collaborated with the likes of Shafiq Husayn, Chester Watson and Foreign Beggars, electronic space funk outfit Paper Tiger return from an explorative journey to the dark edges of the cosmos with their long-awaited third album ‘Rogue Planet’.

‘The Cycle’ (the first single to be lifted from this new offering) features the unmistakeable vocal stylings of the legendary Steve Spacek. His delicate tones fall weightlessly in slow motion, gracefully lacing the track with a wide-eyed childlike atmosphere. Underneath, an effervescent current of textured samples ebbs and weaves – propelled by a downtempo Bruk-esque rhythm section, occasionally accented by emotive key flourishes, jazzy chords and laid-back horns.

Just like the journey from debut long-player ‘Laptop Suntan’ to sophomore album ‘Blast Off’, and in- keeping with the band’s space travel fascination, ‘Rogue Planet’ is a cosmic leap from its predecessor. As a first small step into the feel of the album, ‘The Cycle’ is the perfect choice.

Despite being a typical mix of live recording, self-sampling and beat making, it has something of a different tone. Their emphasis on blending organic sounds with electronic production techniques results in a unique proposition, music which is interesting and technically proficient, but remains vibrant, colourful and funky... captivating both in headphones and on the dancefloor.
